I am with Pris on this one. You seem to be assuming that "wild man" would have been phenotypically the same as "modern man".

Humans adapt quickly, that is one of the reasons we have come so far. Just because a trait isn't expressed right now; in cities etc, doesn't mean that trait may come out after only a short time period of natural selection.

My apologies for attacking you.

for all you vegans out there who have sworn off soy ( i know we have!)

the best source of protien you can get is MUSHROOMS  yes thats right, oysters, shitakes, maitake.. they're all great and loaded with protein...

mushrooms are good indeed. Not to mention many edible species are loaded with anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties.

But I'd like to point out that the mighty Hemp Seed is the most nutritionally complete food source in the world. Hemp seed contains a more efficient form of protein than soy, (that is it is more easily digested by humans), and while it contains slightly less protein than soy, (~34%) in the overall it is more protein as it is easily assimilated.. hemp seed is 65% globulin edistin- the highest in the plant kingdom.

They are high in Lecitihin, Choline, Inositol and Phytosterols

Not only do hemp seeds contain all the essential fatty acids (EFAs) in the proper ratio required by humans, but also all the essential amino acids an trace elements include - strontium, thorium, arsenic, and chromium. It is also a good source of the antioxidant vitamin E in the form of alpha-, beta-, gamma-, delta-tocopherol and alpha-tocotrienol.

High in the minerals: Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur, Iron, Zinc

Do you know a good place to order bulk sterilized hemp seed?

I don't think we've made that choice, I think it's becuase now people want things fast and on the go that food companies are tuning into our lifestyles and giving us things that aren't necissarily good for us, but are convenient and easy, hence the deterioration of home cooking and wholesome natural foods. Plus processed foods are cheaper to produce and store. I think we made the conscious descision that fast and cheap=good.

It's not about being vegetarian per se, just knowing and appreciating where your food comes from, is an idea that is very foreign to us at the moment, hopefully with more restaurants and places supporting slow food movement and organic producers and vendors, the quality of our food both vegetarian and non, will be dramatically better without having to pay significantly more.
