Going out of town..Concerned about casing...
    #4153399 - 05/09/05 02:55 PM (12 years, 20 days ago)

I'll be out of town from early tuesday morning to thursday evening...I just this morning noticed my casing has started pinning in several places...I am concerned that if I am not around to mist, it will dry out...If I just water the hell out of it before I go, might it be ok? I know there is plenty of water in the substrate to draw from, but I am concerned about the casing layer...

you shouldn't mist that much anyway once pinning starts... however misting should have been done consistantly during prepinning so that there was plenty of moisture available for the myc. before it started pinning

i'd say just mist before you leave, and make sure your humidity and air exchange are automated and you'll be fine, GL!

I think you're going to suffer in fresh air exchange more than anything else. If it were me, I would give one last misting before you leave, and leave you terrarium or container lid slightly cracked.

Your pinning is not really going to be effected too drastically by neglecting it for 2 days. You may notice some slow growth, but I don't think you have much to worry about beyond that.

Good luck man.

I also think that your fresh air exchange is more important than anything else...at this point.

if you don't have some kind of automated sytem...

you can set up an air bubbler...you would be in good shape for your trip.

1 aquarium air pump.
1 length of air hose.
1 bubble stone.
1 small drinking glass.
and use some h2o2 mix in the water...that you put in the drinking glass.

Cool guys...Thanks for the help...I kind of made my own version of the pmp with the bubble wands on the sides of the rubbermaid instead of under the sub...Right now, they are about 1" above the casing layer, maybe I'll move them up to about halfway up the wall so that the air does not pass over the casing layer so much...
