quick hunt
    #4150802 - 05/08/05 07:46 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I've been pretty busy, so I haven't been around too much lately..
Anyways I found some time today and went for a 30 min hike, which is my first real hunt of the year so far. I would have liked to stay longer. Hopefully I will be able to go out again tomorrow and be able to bring my camera along and spend more time.

They were really out in force today.. kind of strange how abundant they are in this area. It's been pretty dry too. Had I spent a full day out there, I could have probably picked like a lifetime supply.

Wow! Nice finds. May I ask what kind of tree(s) you found them near. I'm in the northeast also, but haven't had any luck with ash, tulip poplar, elm, sycamore- pretty much name any tree that they're associated with.

Let's see if I can get this right. Those are morels and you eat them because they taste good right? Or do they have something really good for you in them like antioxidants or something?

That's great, especially for only 30 minutes.

Happy mushrooming!

you wouldn't mind give a state, would you? I've been up and down Maine, New Hampshire, and Mass and haven't found jack shit but cold temps.

I usually find the most in mixed beech/elm woods. I've found them growing near several different types of hardwood trees though. Just scan the ground very closely.. Usually when you find one, there are many more to be found. They tend to blend in very well, so a slow thorough approach is ideal. I'm in the tiny state of DE, right on the east coast.

The area that I live in is pretty much a woods. I'm in a suburb type development but it is built like right into a large forest/river system. There are miles and miles of woodlands... right outside my back door.
