Mexis 1st & 2nd flush success (PICS!)
    #4150281 - 05/08/05 02:58 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

These mexis were grown in two trays on rye (multi-spore inoculation) cased with peat/verm/oyster. They grew in a 24X12X14 rubbermaid container, humidity raised with perlite and with two fish pumps bringing in fresh air. They were also featured in a thread with some worry about bacterial blotch: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4116669/page//fpart/all/vc/1

But, as you can see, there was no long terms problems and I got two lovely flushes from them so far!

Flush 1 (158 grams wet):

Flush 2 (100 grams wet):

the second flush on the scale:

So, I just had to share this with you all!

Thanks for all the help out there, and happy growing!!

I tend to trust that scale....  It has been very accurate in the past.

Thanks Diver and Agar for your good advice over that last couple of months! Those fruits are happily drying out as I type... about to replace those trays with some new ones (cased rye spawned to compost & manure), so the adventure begins again...

OK--this is interesting. Because I wanted to make room in my grow space for new projects, I threw those casings seen above into the garden.

Now, if you are observant, you'll notice that one of the trays has a lack of fruits in the middle. well, turning that thing over, lo and behold, green mold infection on the bottom of the grain.

pretty fascinating.

still, got some great fruits from that tray, but not nearly as many as from the uninfected tray.

just goes to show you, you never know what is lurking under the surface....

Here are both flushes, dry. 23.7 grams. Dried by fan and desiccant. Could have gone for another couple flushes, but wanted to free up the terrarium for some other projects.

Happy growing!

those trays are made by Glad. it is "ovenware". 8X8 baking trays with lids. works great! you can even use the lids during the casing run. local grocery should have them.

I'm unsure of the exact origin. Spores came from hawkseye, and HE was even unsure of the origin!!
