The Fabled "Z" strain
    #4150109 - 05/08/05 12:10 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Ive heard a lot of hype from friends and websites about the Z strain. It just sounds to good to be true, high yields, fast growth, fast colonization, many flushes, and high potency. I just want to know if anybody hear has had any experience growing Z strain and if its worth the money.

I think there all pretty much the same besides a few differences on looks, I think it really depends on the conditiond in which you grow them and the substrate they are grown from.

Exactly, who knows what half of these strains are anymore.

All I can say is that if you take any cubensis, grow it out on horse poo correctly, then you'll get all the characteristics you described; big flushes, potent shrooms, etc.  Substrate > strain.

Under his instruction, I taped drumsticks to his head and turned him into a sort of mummy, or perhaps a caterpiller in a cocoon. He remains this way for about three hours, making bizarre noises, pretending to be a new species that must learn to walk and talk and eat, etc. And he communicates with other life forms by way of the antennae on his head. Eventually we jam a tube from a waterbong into it's mouth and figure he's learned all he needs to know.

Not so. Z strain from multi spore going over two weeks some jars not quite 50%colonized. B4 you say its the conditions...or bunk spores. all jars prepared at the same time the same way. half the jars were shaken to disperse multi spore. other half were not. those jars were seperated again into two groups and left to incubate in two different chambers. all jars performing about the same. (Note: the jars that were shaken have better colonization)
Same batch of grain jars were used to inoculate with lc an unknown strain of cubes. within 4 days jars are almost fully colonized.
The z strain was over ten days to show any growth at all.
A cube is a cube is a cube only if they are all the same strain.

A cube is a cube is BS.

The Zs from ralphs (if you dont have the genetics, you dont know you got Z's, mine were from Ralphs and EXACTLY as described on the website)are the best strain so far of 16 cubies hands down. Most of the other stains were similar, but a few strains really stand out..a cube is a cube just aint true.

i got growth in 2 days and full colinization in 13 days in 6 jars with z strain with verm and brf as the substrate. I birthed them last monday and got a single pin on tuesday (the cap will probably open tomorrow) and today most recently a bunch of pins started showing up after i dunk and rolled them. i'm anxious to try another strain to see how it holds up in the same conditions. i've also read that the z is basically a gt?

When the majority of you report colonization times, it is based on BRF cakes.  Cakes are horrible, they are way too easy to screw up the moisture content with, and I don't feel that accurate comparisons can be given when cakes are involved.  When someone reports colonization times on their BRF cakes, I usually disregard it.  Like we don't have enough variables to throw off accurate results already, then you toss those terrible cake things in the equation.  Bah!

*edit* Steve78 I wasn't replying to you, I'm just speaking in general here.

A cube is a cube is a blah blah blah...

Different strains are somewhat different. A cube from South Asia is different from a cube in North America. Period.

However, colonization times, yeilds, and everything else majorly depend on your setup. A PF cake with Z's will not colonize @ the same rate as the Z's on rye. Period.

nice!~

the South American is very fast too.

--

some strains are faster at colonizing than others.

some strains look different than others.

some have different effects...trip wise.

but almost all cubes have the same growing perimeter's.

This is a fable. A Pesa has colorful trips, while mpals have color flashes. Burma's are real smooth and Lipa Yai are kinda violent. Most (not all) strains have very different physical characteristics. So they aren't all the same. The real Z strain is not hype, it is very ropey and colonizes very quickly. It's the perfect strain for a newbie. Just my .02 .......

>but almost all cubes have the same growing perimeter's.

This is true, and this is the reason people say a cube is a cube...its for growth parameters. Like "What do I do to grow this strain?". In that case, a cube is a cube. But when your talking yeilds, looks, trip, and growing quirks (such as abort percentage, size of fruit, pinset ect).....
