heres a little thing i came up with to prevent the substrate from drying out when incubating.
put a layer of perlite with water and h2o2 in the bottom of the incubator to humidify things so any lost water is immediately replaced.
if u have a tub in tub incubator put the perlite in the inner tub (the one without the submersible heater)
i hope i helped a few of u good folks out!

I imagine this helps well with tyvek tops too because I've heard a lot of stories of them drying out on ppl.

That sounds pretty good man. I'm using the tub technique as well, but I drilled some holes on the top rim of the inner tub for air exchange. Do you think with the holes drilled it will work to lower the humidity around the desired range of 50-70% RH?
My container has a lid and is opaque. Thanks for the tip.

I did it with JUST perlite and my jars stayed nice and moist (with the tape off the holes)

Nope, didn't add water. I didn't know what the hell I was doing at the time, but my jars were moist so I didn't think anything of it.

Possibly... it could've had something to do with me flipping the jars over so the holes on the lids were pressed against the perlite.

No, H202 not needed. At least I dont use it, the TIT isnt a sterile environment anyway. Many contams in your tit. If you have good jars you will be safe.
The H2O2 only would work for a short period after all.

My jars never dry out during incubation in my TIT. In fact, there is usually a lot of condensation on the sides/lid whenever I check the jars. I guess I live in a humid place.....
