Verm layer or no?
    #414932 - 10/05/01 02:24 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

Hey,

Id like to be able to fill up my jar with 3/4 wet rye, put the lid on with the medal ring screwd loosely with aluminum over top. Then Pressure cook. then, in sterile location with lysol everywhere, quickly remove the lid and squirt in spores and close the jar tightly. Im wondering if I need a vermiculite layer with holes in the top of the lid for gas circulation, or if the solid seal will be fine. The only reason i dont want to bother with the verm layer is because i want to be able to shake the jar once every few days so the mycelium spreads and colonizes faster.
I really dont want the CO2 to build up and my mycelium die. Im planning on casing with 50/50 verm/soil.
thanks
peace
