help with extraction

The Psilocybin Producer's Guide uses methanol to extract the psilobin from the mycelium. I am wondering if there are any other options (perhaps ethanol)? And is it necessary to seperate it at all or can i dry and eat the mycelium? I would appreciate any tips or experiences.
I live in louisiana where it is always hot and humid. Do I need to use perlite to humidify my chamber or just a daily misting?
