Question about pressure cooking...

Well im getting ready for the pf tek and i wanna make sure everything goes right... when i pressure cook the jars, do i keep the top on? or do i just put foil on top like ive seen in some of the pics arouns here... and also, water goes inside the cooker, correct? how much water? full the whole thing? or just half? plz answer these questions for the newbie  :wink:

hey spekoner. you gotta do some searching and reading up, my friend. all these questions are answered several times over on the information already posted on this great website.

that said (sorry--just gotta say it)...

tops are on. foil goes over the lids. water goes just in the bottom of the pressure cooker, anywhere from a quarter of an inch to an inch or so, depending on the size.

spekowner, another thing you want to keep in mind about PC'ing, i don't know what kind of PC you have (i.e. one with a gauge or one without), mine doesn't have a gauge and the first couple times it wasn't hot enough at all and i had a high rate of contamination. While it's PC'ing the way to check if its operating at the right temperature is to put a drop of water on the top. it should boil through vigorously and almost instantaneously. if it takes a long time to boil, the pressure is too low. there are pics of this in the PF Tek for Simple Minds, you can find it under basic cultivation teks. good luck!
