my progress so far.please take a look!

well I wanted to recap and I am concerned that I might of done something wrong, because I decided to crumble the whole grain brown rice and case. I saw when I crumbled that there was some mycelia development into the center of the cake but I do not know if it was right. I waited until the jars looked white on the outside and waited about 5 more days and then went on with the casing.

from the beginning...

cooked and ready for PC

off they go...

5 days after inoculation..

20 dayz into it..

ready for the good stuff..

how does the crumbling look here? when I broke it there was some growth into it but it was not totally white.

decided to put a bottom layer of verm..

cased with a mix of premade peatmoss+verm, but I added more verm to the mix..

drew this to show what I thought was good for the trays..

this is the actual setup..I had one jar left(I forgot to inoculate in one of the holes) which will become a cake instead. U can see the water heater sitting on top of some hydroton balls drenched in water.

that's it, again my main concern is the substrate being adequate for the development of my gourmet mushrooms

If this doesn't work I'll be pretty pissed off and probably never try it again..  :mad2:

just a thought from your diagram your heater is not submerged completely in water. you may want to change this.

I'm having trouble raising the temp to incubation levels.. I don't have extra trays that I can use in some of the teks. raising the temp on the heater tothe max will just make the water evaporate. how should I do this..?? the temp is currently like 73 - 75 degrees.

you ought to be able to stabilize the temp at inc. temps without all of the water evaporating.

is the casing layer in the midst of being colonized?
if so,  i would individually cover those casings.
when you're tring to get mycelium to grow and not fruits,
you don't want air exchange.
and make sure they aren't exposed to light until they  are ready for fruiting conditions.

well I just crumbled and cased it yesterday. initially I put them on the large black bin where I was hoping the temps were going to get in the mid 80's. but it didn'thappened, just stayed on the low 70's. now what I did next is put water heater in smaller bin, fill with warm water, put in and submerge (aluminum casing trays) half way, and put a lid on top to keeps gasses from moving around, covered with a large towel. I decided to cover the bottom of the bin with aluminum foil and on top of the heater, I thought that would help with the even distribution of heat and even water temps, now the water temp is 85-86, and water droplets form on the sides and on top meaning high humidity.

it should be about 3 to 5 days until I see some growth in the valleys of the casing right? I think I hurt the mycelium pretty bad when I was crumbling it in a Ziplock bag.

after I see a slightest growth: (fruiting period)

1. put it in the frindge for 12 hrs
2: put it on the large black bin uncovered with the temp of 70 - 75
3: fanning twice a day.

is this correct?

btw, the cakes slided easily and felt weird when I broke em, pretty rubbery, first timer

You would be surprised at how hearty myc is. I think it'll be fine. I know many teks and posters say to put the cakes in a blender, a fucking blender for fuck's sakes. If it can survive that, it can survive your crumbling.

yeah and hippiechick also suggested using a cheese grater...that seems much more harsh than hand crumbling. don't worry about it :mushroom2:

i think this is a pretty good setup. although the temp is not at optimal...it should still do fine. i had my jars colonizing at like 55-60 degree and they were doing fine...just really really slow. so with your situation it should be ok.
