3rd G2G Generation Then Clone
    #4145392 - 05/07/05 10:40 AM (12 years, 18 days ago)

If someone was on their 3rd generation of g2g transfers could they just clone a shroom from it and create a new generation or fresh culture?

Not recommended. Senescence. Next time, save some mycelium from the first generation in your refrigerator to use later.

I would disagree. If the first grain was inoculated with multi spore. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th grain to grains would be more like weeding out the weaker strains. Just like isolation from a spore streak. Senesence is no big deal unless you go down over 20 generations i.m.o. Not a big deal for the home cultivator unless you see a dramatic decrease in productivity. Id save the strain once you get a nice fruite with a clone and use thatas your mother. Then label it like 3rd generation plate# 1. Then the next plates you make from that be like plate #2 and go up to 10. Then start again from that mother dish plate # 1 and go on again. This way That one strain can last you a few years or until your research finds you with a better fresher culture of a new race of mushroom.

As Sheik says, it depends some on if the original culture was isolated or multispore.

Regardless, as RR says, it's not recommended. That's the standard advice, and it's safe to follow.

I do have experience that says the standard advice isn't that big of a deal to small scale cultivators. I've seen an isolated strain on agar noc g1 jars, expand to g2, fruit and then clone again. This was repeated for over a year and no senescence was noted. It's not the standard advice, just what I've seen.

So, do it if you need to, but I wouldn't advise it as the way to plan a strategy.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
