what comp should i buy?
    #4144649 - 05/07/05 02:15 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I have money! Lots of it! Now I can burn this piece of shit and buy the comp of my dreams. The only problem is I've never actually bought one before so I'm not sure where to start.

Would anyone care to reccomend some good models or manufacturers? Would I maybe be better off building my own?

It's mostly gonna be used for gaming and just to be clear money is not an issue. I want this thing to cure aids and make me spontaniously combust the first time I boot it up.

Money doesn't matter and you want something prebuilt? A warranty for all parts from a single source?

Yeah if money is no object and you want a desktop, go with alienware, if you want a laptop that's a desktop replacement, Sager is the way to go, altho alienware does have cooler looking laptops. you can check out sagers at [url[http://www.pctorque.com[/url]

i depends on what youre going to use your comp for. are you going to be playing games, making music, design graphics, video editing, or just typing papers and surfing the net?

He said he's gonna use it for gaming. While I still agree with my previous post, you could just build one that's just as bad ass as an alienware for less than 1/2 the cost. I'm building my next comp and will never buy a prebuilt one again.

Ok, first off, unless you really like to waste money, forget alienware.

If you want a system builder that will give you the latest 'ok' prices, try http://www.ncix.com/pcbuilder/

They have both Canadian and US prices.  But you're from england so you're shit out of luck.  Still, you can use an online converter to get a good idea of the final price from your local dealer.

Before you jump into it, you can get exelent opinions and advice from http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/

They know their shit, and you dont have to OC just to get some opinions.

For $1k (canadian) i built my buddy an AMD64 3000+ (939 pin), 512 DDR400, Radeon 9600 XT, 160GB 7200rpm HD system about half a year ago, and it runs all current games (ie, Half Life 2 on high settings) flawlessly.

GL!

Yes build build build!

All you really need is a calculator and pricewatch, but watch out for some advertisers on there. I just get 75% of my parts from newegg, love that place.

Whatever you do STAY AWAY from DELL and Gateway.
These systems suck and are proprietary out the ass.
I would recommend you build yourself one with the components
you want in it.

Dells made a huge turn around with the proprietary components/drivers. I'd actually recommend dell over any of the rest of the pre-built computers. You can get a high-end gaming machine for less than the price it costs to build one yourself, but most of the time the system board will be proprietary, Dell's own design. That, and you can get a 3 year warranty.

I didn't even know Gateway was still around...
