Amanita cultivation

Ive got a spore print of Amanita muscaria, and I've got a small potted
pine tree (blue spruce, I think) on my balcony. Anyone know how I could go
about innoculating the pine with the spores? Would they need to be put
directly on the roots, or just in the soil? Is it even possible to do
this?

Thats a good question, even though we know they are very difficult to cultivate and take quite a bit of time, I still haven't seen a good tek to inoculate tree roots with mycorrhizal fungi. Here is what I would do, may or may not work, but it seems practical. Buy you a pine tree specie known to have mycorrhizal relationships with Amanitas, it should be root bound in a small pot, or burlap sac. Carefully slide the small tree out of its pot and with a syringe made with Amanita spores, inoculate the root ball in various spots throughout the root system, slide tree back in pot. Let grow for a year or two, then transplant to the ground in a low lying area that has some shade protection. Might see fruiting in as little as 5 years I hear, but can take up to 20, and may never happen?

Try it and see what happens, wouldn't hurt.

well one must think how it happens in nature. My guess is get some honey water mix in spores, dig up soil so partial roots are visible and innoculate.

Wonder if ya can get the mycel. to grow out in a lab or home enviroment and transplant? That is assuming they require mycorrhizal relationships only to fruit, but doubt it, oh well just a thought.

Actually I hear its not hard to get Amanita spores to germiate on agar, maybe colonize a few plates and place wedges directly on the roots?

it is hard with all mykhorriza shrooms like amanita...you need a certain agar-formula for mykhorriza...i can find it if someone is interested....i just cloned a boletus edulis on this medium
