Psychopaths and Psychedelics
    #4141285 - 05/06/05 08:16 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Alright I hear alot of talk about shrooms smashing the ego of ones mind, and I personally know this to be true.

But what about Psychopaths, who without a super ego, can only function in the real world on their ego? Wouldnt they only be left with their id and be left as spiritually enlightened as a wild animal?

This, under the assumption you refer to the "Ego" as part of the "Id, Ego, Super Ego" conciousness that Sigmund Freud acclaimed.

Most people who refer to ego loss aren't talking about the freudian sense of "ego"... atleast I'm not. I can't speak for everyone, obviously.

Freud was a fucking quack who projected his own obsession with his mother onto the entire population.

Life is what you make of it... Freud assumed that what HE had made of life was the intrinsic meaning of life. There is no intrinsic meaning of life... life is what you make of it.

Freud was a pioneer and deserves some credit. But I agree with your assesment of him.

Oh, absolutely man... I credit Freud with opening peoples' eyes to new modes of thought that hadn't been considered, which in turn lead to more useful developments.

When I speak of egoloss I am typically speaking about looking through judgeless eyes... what one could think of as true unconditional love... it isn't that you become a mindless animal, but rather that your motivations are no longer defined by desire.

If you're talking about psychopaths being sociopaths, I really don't see how shrooms would create all that much ego-loss, their ego being so strong, but you never know, do you?

Indeed.. the strength of their ego ends up being their downfall, in my findings on this subject.

Their ego is so developed that it becomes impossible to let go... so they hold on for the ride. This works fine at some doses, but at some degrees of extremity holding on for the ride can become dangerous to one's mental stability after the fact.

Freud was a hedonist. He was also bisexual, took it wherever he got it, and was a drug addict. You should look at some APA reports on the nature of Freud, suggesting that he is an over all fraud, although he did make many accomplishments concerning expanding perceptions.

His sexual theories are hillarious.

Entheogens can case-harden a super embedded ego as well as soften a less substantial one. I have seen it many times. Set and setting.

I very much doubt psychedelics would do much. I dated a girl who was a pre-med psych major who knew all about this shit, and I seem to remember her telling me that most sociopaths/psychopaths have abnormalities in some part fo their brain (left-hemisphere maybe?). Thus, although they would certainly trip, this would still be a chemical alteration. It'd be like trying to change a gay person's sexuality with a chemical. Just won't work ,they're born that way, and unless there is some massive biotechnology breakthrough in the next few years, chances are they'll stay that way. You could probably give a sociopath a thumbprint and they still wouldn't love anyone or have compassion, not to say it wouldn't change their brain chemistry though  :nut:. Who knows though, it'd be interesting to find out.
