pmp-use pollyfill or no?
    #4142725 - 05/06/05 04:36 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

hi, i've been filling my 2 holes in the lid of my pmp with pollyfill. the rh has been 99% so i made the holes bigger and its still 99%. when i have the lid open and i look at my cakes i see the rh go down on my hygrometer. so do you think by removing my pollyfill ill lower the rh and have better gas exchange?

No need for polyfill. The air being pumped into pmp will be exiting the holes. very little will come back in. Plus cakes and casing are pretty contam resistant anyway. Its not like the air your are pumping into is going through a hepa (is it?)so its the same air outside your pmp anyway.

the main reason i use the polyfil is because i want to keep out the possibility of any flies getting in. i havnt seen any in that room but occasionaly i have in other rooms here and with the warmer weather coming i wanted to be as careful about that as i can.

Cut your holes larger and glue a screen over them.

They managed to get into mine and I had every single hole sealed/filtered/taped... you name it. If those little bastards want to get in your PMP, they will find a way in. The best approach is probably to put up some of the tape to attract them to that instead of the fungus. You could also spray the outside of the PMP with some repellent. Despite the two gnats that got into my pod, I never had a contam or larvae so don't sweat it too much.

I bought some hanging fly and gnat catchers. They hang and uncoil and have kept my grow gnat free. I would do polyfil, just for the sake of it.
