Bury them, keep them in the closet, show them to company, or leave them on the front porch all year and pretend they are for Halloween?

bury the bodies properly until the decompose, then use skeletons as you wish, for example for school (we used to pass around a mans head in biology class for close examination, someone didn't pay their cemetary anual bill) or in a museum, or any place that doesn't make a mockery out of the remains

Perhaps you have taken me too literally. My post isn't about bones but about the philosophy of disclosure for past sins to your friends, loved ones or a curious audience.

If you tell something someone to get something off your chest, it may make you feel better, but if they hate you for it, was it worth it?

Don't know how it is in other part of the world, but recently (a month or two ago) a new law came out that makes EVERYONE organ doners after death, unless you go to your doctor and sign that you don't want it. So instead of going to sign that you are going to donate your organs, you have to sign that you don't, otherwise you get disected after death.

I'd be glad to donate, at least I won't wake up burried alive when they take my organs out

that's a tough one... lying generally is not a good thing and telling the truth gives an feeling of freedom. what if it doesn't come up? then it's probably okay.

myself honestly there are certain aspects of myself i just dont share with certain friends/family. they wouldn't understand and would misinterpret and freak out. example: entheogens. but im an awful liar. i just avoid the topics altogether.

i try to be "good" but everyone has limits, degrees of powerlessness. i dont buy the homeless guy on the corner a meal. ideally id always have that money to give. it just feels really wrong to do it, cause i think i have better uses for that money! some days it means my rent.

i gotta follow my gut. gut says dont give him money. gut usually ends up being right.

next day maybe i really do feel like buying his lunch. then i do it and maybe feel really good about it. then i'd say gut ends up right that day too.

IMO, anything that feels too wrong usually is wrong, even if you think its right. and vice versa, or whatever.

"I just avoid the topics altogether".

I tend to think you are right, don't lie, just don't volunteer.

The only thing is, depending on how close you are to that person you may feel like a sneaky witholding information type.

I love this line of thinking. This is how I approach things.....if it feels "right" then I will do it.

"i gotta follow my gut"

What choice does one have?  You walk around, and everywhere you turn, you are following your gut.  That reminds me, I gotta lose a little of that gut me and my good buddy Weiser have been working on.

I also need to try to bring this thread back towards topic.

In terms of disclosure of your past to people that you are close to,  do you tend to withhold information for your protection, or do you tend to disclose information because they have a right to know?

I don't believe that this subject matter really pertains to relationships with others... it's more about a relationship with yourself. Keeping "skeletons in your closet" is a means of describing self-denial... of not owning up, to that which you've done that violates your own moral beliefs; out of shame or pride.

Confessing to others as a means of 'getting it off your chest' is just an easy way of confessing to YOURSELF. The fact that you're sharing it with someone else in the process is the "icing on the cake" in the sense that it forces you to keep from re-denying it from yourself. (The cat's out of the bag... that sort of thing.)

It's not sharing it with someone else that makes you feel better... it's facing your own downfalls and acknowledging them as a part of who you are. It's a step towards accepting yourself as a whole... and that is what makes you feel better.

My two pyreals...

"It's a step towards accepting yourself"

As opposed to denying yourself and "re-denying yourself".

Great stuff Jacques.

Everyone has something about themself that they keep secret from the general public.

Keeping them a secret doesn't mean that you haven't accepted them.....it just may mean that the time isn't right to tell the secret.

I have skeletons that some people know about (details behind the skeleton) and other people have only heard of (know of the skeleton just not the gory details behind how it got there).

It is kind of like a circle of friends.

Some people are in your circle of trust (close friends)....others (potential friends) are just on the outside looking in, waiting there turn, to be in your circle.

"Some people are in your circle of trust"

That's a good way to look at it, you are trusting them with your secret IF they deserve to know.

I also think that silence is golden, and what they don't know won't hurt them. What they do know could hurt you and/or them.
