Point
    #4140337 - 05/05/05 11:53 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

The key to meditation is to concentrate the mind into a single point. There are many methods for doing this, from singing to listening to holy words, to contemplative procedures. But the end result is the same: to focus our minds sharply.

A point has a definite position in space but neither size nor shape.
A point marks an actual place in time, such as a point of departure.
A point is the very essence of something, as in the point of an idea.
A point is a coordinate for navigation.
A point is the dominant center, as in the principal point of perspective.
A point determines our outlook, as in point of view.

Once the mind is made into a single point, it takes on the above attributes. In contrast, a mind that is not focused is dispersed over a wide area. Its thoughts are scattered, its energies are in disarray, and it cannot move clearly in any direction. It is at the mercy of a thousand influences and is easily disoriented. The result is confusion, ignorance, unhappiness, and helplessness. A mind that is clearly focused, however, recieves all things and can abide in utter tranquility. It is no exaggeration to say that its world revolves around it. It no longer has to chase after all that appears before it.

I hear that.

I was watching Real Sex tonight and these guys were doing dick tricks. Pretty amazing. I liked the hamburger with the sesame seeds.

Not that I am gay, this stuff was like taking a dick and transforming it into art.

The sad truth is that points do not actually exist.

I think the point is to bring one's mind into a single band of oscillating string.

Seriously.

I will try not to make any point jokes. OK, pointdexter? :nonono:

Your point, no pun intended, is so very true, and totally relevant and practical to daily living. I especially like "such as a point of departure".

the point is... there is no point...and trying to concentrate is you imposing your will and desire..

buddha said,if you suffer you suffer because you desire... and your desires are either unatainable or have always been disappointing or something... so CUT OUT desire..... so those disciples went away and stamped on desire, jumped on desire, cut the throat of desire, threw out desire... but then they came back and buddha said: "but you're still desiring not to desire."

I think his point is...to desire or shut off your desire, to do anything with your conscious awareness, to direct it in any direction or no direction, first it must coalesce. It cannot follow your lead if bits and pieces are off everywhere, in distraction, doing their own thing. It cannot become you, the observer who looks outwards never questioning or doubting his own identity, if it remains outwardly scattered for you to see.

but see..... again there is this desire... as you said... desire to shut off your desire.... and there you'll find yourself in a loop of conscious demand with *yourself*....

..soz if im not being too clear.. hopefully..

The point is to roll all desires, into one single pointed desire, then this desire graduallybecomes so poweful that it overwhelems itself and cuts its own throat, exhausting and ending the process of desire completly.

Ya that's the way I see it too. Meditation is a nice way to relax though. :mushroom2:

The Jack and The Beanstalk Desire?

Or is that the sadomasochistic desire which cuts it's own throat?
