Ya it worked for me but don't LCs need gas exchange? Not sure about that but I don't think my baby bottles have it

I used this procedure yesterday with the evenflow bottles. I realize this tek was written over a year ago, so the manufacturer's design of the BB's may have changed.

The evenflow BB's I purchased also have caps at the bottom. Small amounts of water leak out. One of the bottles had significant leakage losing maybe 50ml of water overnight.

I sealed all the leaks with the silicon sealant.

Do you guys think my LC's are probably contam'd, or am I probably straight?

Thanks guys.

agar is away for a while, look at my journal... the blue injection ports can be found at the website posted, cheepest on the net, but min order of $10.

Just a FYI, the blue one's aren't that good. with a 18 ga. needle it will put a hole in the port, over time it gets pretty worn out. I still use em tho, i got alot.

I had one question. When you fill a sterile syringe with LC, what do you do with what's left over in the jar? Continue to incubate it until it's used up? Or is it thrown in the fridge to stall the solution for a few months?

I'm glad someone dug up this post. This is the only way i've ever done lc and it has worked great for me. To answer your question I usually continue incubation about a week after the first signs of growth. So about 10 days total.

I've always had problems with the baby bottles leaking. Never have been able to get this to work for me.

If you get one of the baby bottles without the little holes on the base of the nipple it won't leak. Alot of the more expensive bottles come with tiny holes poked in the nipple where it fits over the bottle top. You can silicone over these holes but if your not careful, the silicone can make the bottle not give a good seal when you tighten the lid. The bottles at my local dollar store have worked wonderfully for me. Also, drawing the solution from the bottle can be a bit tricky.

All and all though, i havent had any major problems using a baby bottle. Even without any gas exchange.
