Basically I'd like to hear your opinions about a Psychedelic Society - being, primarily, a community of people who hold the psychedelic experienece as a central motif - would be like.
What led me to this reflection was basically thinking about the shroomery, and how so many like minded individuals whose spiritual beliefs, philosophies and life-styles differ and contrast so greatly, and yet we are all connected by an almost ineffable, incredible experience that most people couldn't even begin to understand.
Truly, this place is a refuge. So I'm wondering what your thoughts would be if something like the shroomery were manifested from virtual reality into a real community.

It would probably be cool, nothing more than what we have today though.
Personalities clash in person, and while there are the spiritual people, there are the exact opposite here aswell. If you want to know what it would be like, go check out Off Topic Discussion. Then be glad your neighbors are law obiding christians and not SenorDoobie.

I don't feel this real life community would be stable. It would last about 3 weeks. Then break out into all out warfare with casualties on both sides. Then slinking off to form cave dwelling slime creatures.

Personalities may clash, but theres always the one thing that we all have in common to talk about.

maybe the most useful gift of psychedelics in this whole experience we think of as "life" is empathy. or, for some of you wiser thinkers, maybe even "meta" empathy. Heh. An even marginally better understanding of things is still an improvement...possibly.

Very nice. Welcome to the Shroomery! With thinking like this you will be a welcome addition to the mix.

is aldous huxley's final novel _island_ a legitimate blueprint for a psychedelic-tolerant society?

Look at the Huichol indians. This is the basis for their society. I would be interested in seeing a society based on fly fishing as their most sacred act instead.

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Ahhh, flyfishing, my goes pitter patter. Where do I sign up. I could be happy with a dog a flyrod and about 3 miles of interesting water. To me it is a sacred act. Nuts I know.

In my opinion it would be same as contemorary church worship, a bunch of people gathering around their fetish and measuring life accoarding to it.
Or a bunch of monkeys that recently discovered a mirror or a music box, so the gather around it
It would be a society addicted to drugs just as todays society is addicted to money
In general I find the idea of isolating one thing and placing it on a special worship place is like a computer loop running in circles

I am with you on that one.

... I think it would be something like Haight-Ashbury or Venice beach before the 'Summer of love'.
