Christianity Bashing
    #4137229 - 05/05/05 12:48 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

Christianity Bashing seems to be very much in vogue lately.

First off, I'm not a Christian. I'm in school learning to be a scientist, and I dont really believe any of this religous stuff. But I'm getting a history minor and am taking a "History of Early Christianity" class. We're reading through tons of early x-ian texts, from the earlier philosophers and desert monks and such.

Let me tell you, there is a shitload of wisdom in these books. Not just "Oh, God is great, Kill the fags, enslave people" or whatever people nowadays claim to find in the bible. But real, good, common sense wisdom.

I just think people nowadays are very quick to bash Christianity, which, in its current incarnation, perhaps deserved to be dragged down a bit. But dont discount a religion that probably just as spiritual, mystical and as interesting as yours.

If it is life that you feel you are missing I can tell you where to find it.  In the law courts, in business, in government.  There is nothing occurring in the streets. Nothing but a dumbshow composed of the helpless and the impotent.    -Cormac MacCarthy

He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.  - Aeschylus

By their fruits you shall know them.

I'm more into bashing Christians than Christianity.

You are right. I think a slow, drawn-out bashing is much more effective.

Sure theres some good ideas in the books. Thats not what we are bashing. We're bashing what has become of the religion......

No need for bashing of any sorts, those who like to bash on states america and other peoples faiths seem to only do so to make them selfs feel up on the socalled ladder of life.

Sorry I don't quite agree. I don't think I would waste my time bashing any ones religion, if it hadn't invaded govt., my rights as an individual to do what I choose with my own body, and the way my children are taught in school. Give me a break. :mushroom2:

I disagree with this too. The neighborhood beliefs reflect the dogma of the church. I know, I grew up by a church. There are a lot of healther ways for people to bond than over some exclusive religious structure.

i do agree withthat also. They all kinda say come join us, come to the youth night and watch movies with us, come join us come join us. It wasnt my cup of tea, but for some it is, and i shouldnt and will not say it is right or wrong what others believe or do. Thats not an american way to do things.

Here is the basis of my personal Christian bashing: They don't follow the basic tenets of their Teacher.

"Judge not let ye be judged."
The preachers are non-stop judgers. Gays are evil, pot-smokers are evil. Rock music is evil. (55% of ALL USA arrest are now for marijuana.)

"Thou shalt not kill."
Thou shall just kill tens of thousands of Iraqi cictizens (to protect them) and rename it "Collateral Damage". If there IS a Judgement Day, do these immoral people think that God will be fooled?

"Love thine enemy."
And kill the fuckers!

The teachings are deep, but v-e-r-y simple.

I do those things, but up in the woods. I do those things in my home. I do them in private cuz i find walking down the street muttering strange words rather worrysome to some people.
