Texas House to cheerleaders: Don't shake it
    #4137081 - 05/05/05 10:15 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

WTF!?
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/LAW/05/05/cheerleaders.law.reut/

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) -- Texas lawmakers sent a message to the state's high school cheerleaders Wednesday: no more booty-shaking at the game.

The state's House of Representatives voted 85-55 to approve a bill that would forbid sexy cheers and give the Texas Education Agency authority to punish schools that allow "overtly sexually suggestive" routines at football games and other events.

The proposal must go to the Texas Senate for consideration.

"People are calling and telling me how disgusting it is to see sexually suggestive routines on the part of marching units or cheerleaders," said State Rep. Al Edwards, a Houston Democrat who sponsored the bill.

He complained of cheerleaders "shaking their behinds, breaking it down," but the proposal does not define what constitutes suggestive cheering.

Democratic state Rep. Senfronia Thompson, also of Houston, said the bill was a waste of valuable time.

"I think the Texas Education Agency has enough to do making sure our kids are better educated, and we are wasting our time with 'one two three four, we can't shake it any more?"' Thompson told legislators.

WEAK SAUCE.

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth...

Good. I think the overt sexuality of high school cheerleading is a bit innapropriate. Just my opinion though. :-)

Come on how can you even define what constitutes suggestive cheering? If they're so worried about it then maybe they should have the cheerleaders dress in something other than skirts that hang a foot down from their waists. Stupid conservative Texas.

Cheerleaders ar there to be looked at. My freinds got a doll for his kid that a chearleader. When you squeeze it it sings a song that goes a lil somethin like this. Bend over n touch your toes and wiggle it just a little bit, blah blah blah yada yada yada. But yeah his 3 and 4 year old are going to be whores when they get older with toys like that.

Sounds like a good law to me. I wouldnt want my daughter simulating sexual acts in front of the whole school at a football game.

Then tell her not to damnit! Have a man to daughter talk and say "Look, I don't think it's appropriate for a girl your age to be doing all those sexual things as a spectacle." See what SHE thinks. If she's going to keep doing it, tough. She's a high school girl. But don't pass a fucking LAW about it. A law!!! Since when did the law become so trivial that is has to guide something as incredibly local and unimportant as this.

This is exactly the problem with our system of government. Everytime somebody doesn't like something, instead of just trying to fix the problem on a local basis PERSONALLY, or SMALL-SCALE, they pass a law about it so that NOBODY can do it, ever. It's just a product of weak minds driven by a desire for imaginary justice.

It's rediclous. You know every state in the US passed like 10x more laws, EACH, than China did, in one year. That's because of bullshit like this. And all of you that agreed with this law sicken me. I don't care if you don't think it's appropriate (it really isn't kinda), that doesnt justify a LAW against it.

Our school system is out of control. Schools need to be more strcit otherwise the future generation wont be able to compete with the rest of the world.

So maybe if we pass less laws we would be more like China? I guess thats what some people want...

Personally I would never let my kid go to public school so I guess i dont have to worry.

Just because something is immoral, does that mean we need to make LAWS against it? Think about that one for a second.

Just put it in the hands of the SCHOOL! If THEY don't do a good job, THEY get punished. Don't pass a fucking law about everything. Law is meant to protect our freedoms, not take it away.

Law has moved into a role that is way to close to the personal lives of all people. It should have stopped it's encroachment a long time ago and stayed there.
