What do you mean, "done Linux from scratch"? If you mean write an operating system from scratch, then yes I have done that... it took me about a year to get a very simply system working... just getting around the damn triple faults getting into protected mode took me a good month. This is the type of project that you can burn years away with... I know...

i did this last weekend. i learned a ton doing it. after all the work, i wound up doing a stage 3, but i might reinstall this weekend. going from stage 1 to stage 3 i learned about USE flags, CFLAGS, etc. now that i know what i want i might just go ahead and reinstall.... or i might:
Quote:

emerge --update --deep --newuse world
emerge -p --depclean
revdep-rebuild

i believe with gentoo that might do the same thing as a reinstall.

doing it very soon. I have to backup this computer then I am going for it. Yay. Gentoo was great and I'm going to go back to it after I finish LFS ( or maybe Hardended Linux From Scratch ) because its so good about updating. I just wnat to be able to learn the real ins and outs of the packages that make up linux.

Maybe you can put Portage on your LFS and turn it into Gentoo. That would be sweet.
