so I think I got some overlay
    #4134886 - 05/04/05 11:17 PM (11 years, 6 months ago)

i think i may have overlay on one of these strains. This is WBS(3/4 inch) on top of 1/2 inch vermiculite cased with 1/2 inch coir/vermiculite adjusted with oyster shell. The strain with the more visible mycelium is Blue Meanie and the less colonized on is B+. They are both on top of 2 in perlite and i fan about 3-4 times a day and mist about every other time i fan (i mist carefully in an arc not directly over tub). I waited till i saw mycelium coming up in a very few spots then patched, waited 24 hours, then cold shocked for 8 hours and they have been in the lower 70s ever since. My cheapo walmart hydrometer always shows the humidity at just under 90% I also noticed today the mycelium in the blue meanie casings didnt seem so fluffy. I think i did everything perfectly?? Any Ideas?

any ideas why? I think i did everything correctly. What do i do to prevent the one on the left from overlaying more? Also should i look into scraping for the ones on the right?

I have the same qestion. I have a casing that looks like the ones on the left. Almost overlay, but not quite. I'm confused, because I don't want to end up patching all the time and end up with a huge casing layer that never pins. How do you get the myc to stop overtaking the casing?

Mind you I'm only a newb.

My guess would be that your humidity is too high. Casings create their own humidity.

You can patch up the casing, cold shock it over night and put it back into the fruiting chamber, don't seal it completely, and don't worry about humidity too much.

Also make sure the casing gets light, it initiates pinning.

yeah i see that, i really dont think the ones on the left are overlaying im not really sure though. Normally to prevent that you can cold shock which is supposed to stop the mycelium in its tracks, i tried that for 8 hours with these casings and you can see the results, maybe try it for 24 hours

well the right doesn't look yellowed and hard. try lightly patching those and THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN FRUITING DAYS AGO.

all your casings should already be in fruiting. the ones on the left are actually doing pretty good, but i'd lightly patch the myc. spots showing strongly on top.

EDIT - PS... don't scrape.

So my overlay ended up just being a little overgrown and i am getting a pretty nice first flush off of the blue meanies, i still havent quite figured out what these strange mycelium-looking balls are that are coming up on my b+ casings, any ideas?

No it isn't really hard, cover the sides of the tub so that light only penetrates from the top. That is if you have a clear top for light to enter. if not get some plexi and make a nice little light hole.

They are just mutants. For some reason those are mutating. It could be the genetics, and it could be exposure to petrolium based products and/or lysol. I dont think its from contams, since all of them are doing it.

Those are some nice blue meaies though. Blue meanies on h-poo:
