LAHORE, Pakistan (CNN) -- Alleged al Qaeda operative Abu Faraj al-Libbi, wanted in two attempts to assassinate President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, has been arrested along with 10 more al Qaeda suspects in Pakistan, the government has said.
Al-Libbi -- a Libyan who had a $1 million bounty on his head -- and three other al Qaeda suspects were arrested Monday in Wazirstan, a tribal area of Pakistan on the border of Afghanistan.
"He was the most wanted man in Pakistan and he's a big catch," said Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad in an interview with CNN.
"It's a good sign and we are going in the right direction," he added.
In Washington, a U.S. intelligence official had no details of the arrest but said al-Libbi's capture is "very significant."
Ahmad said there had not yet been any requests from the United States to interview al-Libbi.
In another raid, this one early Wednesday in Bajore on the northwestern frontier near the Afghan border, intelligence officials and local police told CNN seven al Qaeda members were arrested.
The operation began with a raid on a house by Pakistani army commandos, security agency officers and helicopters, officials said.
Three of the men arrested are Afghans, three are Pakistani and one's nationality is not yet known, the officials added.
Al-Libbi is suspected of being the mastermind of two suicide bomb assassination attempts on Musharraf. He is alleged to be the key member of al Qaeda operations in Pakistan.
In August 2004, Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN they believed al-Libbi had taken on the role of No. 3 in al Qaeda following the capture of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
Al-Libbi was among six suspects identified as Pakistan's "Most Wanted Terrorists" in a poster campaign last year.

the "war on terror" was not meant to be won.. its meant to be continuous...so this raises the question of whats bushs' "plan B" if the current "war on terror" is inadvertantly won...

Well, he still has the war on drugs, the war on freedom, the war on peace, the war on non-conservatives, the war on the environment, the war on Darwin, the war ...

how can a "war on terror" even be won? last I checked, people have been killing innocent people since the dawn of civilization. Somehow I do not believe an asshole like George Bush is going to stop this.

Is he an asshole for trying? Wouldn't he be an even bigger asshole if he didn't? Are you an asshole if you accept it?

He's an asshole for stealing my money to support his cause.

So it's OK that he's trying but you don't want to pay for it. And just how much was it that you paid in taxes last year?

Thousands of dollars I'm sure, what relavence does that have on the war on terror other than proving that he is stealing from me in order to support his cause.
So it's OK that he's trying but you don't want to pay for it.
Interesting question. I guess another way of thinking about that would be how would I or someone else on this board feel about a private citizen using their own funds and resources to fight a war on terror. Well I would imagine that private citizen would be labeled a terrorist by many nations and they would seek to bring such a person to justice.

How do you win the war on terrorism by taking actions which breed more terrorists and more hate for the US and US citizens? Bush's idea of combating terrorism if applied to an infectious disease would involve infecting more people in order to contain the disease - hardly a rational approach.

But, he's not a private citizen. Your point is utterly irrelevant. He is the duly elected President of the United States and it is within his purview to perform these acts. He got re-elected by the people after he commenced the current action. You don't like it? Run for office. Do you think that a super-majority should be required for government action? What was the congressional vote to authorize the war anyway? Without looking it up I bet it was more than 2 to 1. Hell, I bet it was more than 3 to 1. How did that draft thing turn out anyway? Anybody you know report for his induction physical?

Not to go off on a tangent, but that's the best news I've heard from that region in some time. Those Al-Qaeda loons are nothing but mad-dog terrorists and don't give a shit who they hurt or kill....

I like how this went: US captures key Al-Qaeda member= Bush doesn't want to end terrorism.WTF? Makes little sense to me.

You don't like it? Run for office.
That implies I feel government should have to authority to take such actions.
I don't.
