I made a difference in my town...
    #4133094 - 05/04/05 04:26 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

Last year I contacted a city council member about my frustrations with a portion of the city's bike path. At one park in town the trail is directly adjacent a very busy road, without any sort of curb, barricade or other car-deterrant. In the 2 years I've been riding that trail to work every day I've seen a large number of cars pulled off the road, onto the trai. Usually picking their kids up from the park nearby or pulling U-turns.

He sent my letter up the chain and I even met one day with some city officials at the park and we talked about ideas and possibilities to fix the situation. That was last year... my councilman just wrote me back saying that the city had appoved funding to install a bunch of concrete columns in between the road the bike trail in order to prevent cars from dangerously pulling onto the trail.

It's nice to know that there are people in charge of my city who will listen to what somebody like me has to say, agree, and take the necessary action to get it done.

PEACE

:mushroom2:zippoz:mushroom2:

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."
