Odds of a new super drug coming out?

When do you think it will happen? 40 years ago LSD hit the scene. 20 years ago MDMA hit the scene.
What's next? Maybe a whole new KIND of drug, one that we can't even imagine. What if the "dangers" of the drug are truly non-existant and non-detectable. No apparent come down, no apparent after effects.
A super drug that takes hold of society in a way unimagined by people of our generation. Everyone from 15-80 trying it at least once because it's sheer power and popularity.
Think it can/will happen?

Of course it will, look at all the modifications to the mescaline molecule.

Ha, I read about Soma the other day. Didn't even know it existed. But it's defenitely not wide scale enough, or sweet enough.
I'm talkin like..a drug that is so powerful that it just sweeps the world and redefines the idea of "drugs" and "sobriety" and all kinds of things. Knocks things around a bit.
Super heroin? Or that shit that Tom Cruise did in Minority Report? Or maybe something like that new movie by the makers of Waking Life?
Something seriously earth shattering. Something that spreads like 100x the speed that MDMA spread, and is easy to make.

you suffer from a lack of literary and/or theatrical exposure
I'm referring to a drug happily accepted by society, that we all partake in, as part of society.

Yeah I hear ya. But if nobody in my area has ever tried Soma, or heard of it, then Soma doesn't fit into my superdrug category.

There are over some 200 phsycedelic chemicals out there. Chemists such as Dr. Alexander Shulgin create these chems almost daily. He alone is responsible for 150 chemicals such as the 2ci group. Most never make it past the lab and most will never get out into the world. Depends on who finds the old and forgoten lab notes.

soma was the drug described by Aldous Huxley in his book "Brave New World" If you haven't read it, you probably should.

From what I've read, there's soooooo many plants that have yet to be discovered, much less experimented with, that you can bet there will be something absolutely mind-blowing out there in the Amazon or Siberia... or the ocean for that matter, I never thought of that one... It boggles the mind when I consider how little we really know about the Earth and the possibilities it contains.

The next big drug to come out is called Super Cool. It comes in wands like a pixie stick, and is thrice as sugary.

If our high school english teacher had told us about Huxley's involvment in the early use of pschedelics that book would have made more sense to me at the time.

Probably more than 3X. Because you have to figure that on land, the biosphere only encompases an area very close to the surface, both above and below.
Whereas in the sea, the bioshphere extends below and MILES above the physical surface. Far out....
