 Mushroom growth pattern

Looking at my pinned cases and I notice all my shrooms seem to be growing on the edge of my plastic container and very few in the center. The caseing moisture seems to be good, but I don't know why none are located in the center.
Can anyone explain this?

its because for one moisture must be collecting in the sides, and two the casing must have shrunken away from the sides allowing light in the side

if shrinking does occur like that is it a good idea to then fill in the sides periodically with casing mix?

so if I misted more in the center thus adding more moisture to the center of the case should I see pinning develop there?

that might bhelp but it also has to do with lighting but moisture is very important too, but once ppinning starts its not really gonna be possible to get them to "move"

Does all pinning take place at the same time? if I see pins now is it likey that new ones will show up later on.

yes thats a def. possibility if u have even a moderate sized casing, expecially if u didn't patch or initiat pinning properly
at least in my experience w/ casings

hey hippiechick, would you think i'd get co2 buildup on top of a bulk casing in a martha w/ coolmist 24/7? they have about an inch and a half of room at the top and i never thought about that before...

Not sure if an 1 1/2" lip would trap CO2 or not. CO2 is so much heavier then O2 maybe it is getting trapped a little. Just going off what I was told when I started casings. Good Luck.

honestly i kinda doubt one would have much co2 buildup in the trays, but if your worried about it just fan it for a min and that'll remove it

I amnew here and was wondering, I read somewhere that if the mushrooms, as they were fruiting, did not have enough oxygen, then the caps would take longer to form and the stem would become bigger. Any truth in this? I am fanning my cakes out every 5-6 hours or so. I have 4 pint cakes in a container about 13 by 8 inches by 6 inches deep. DoI need more room?
