a couple questions

when making shroom tea:
1. Does the brew lose potency if left for a long period of time (like a couple hours) in a thermos or something?
2. Is it best to brew and strain the mushrooms, or leave them in?
3. If strained, will the mushrooms used be worthwhile to eat?
I've never tried this, and I'm looking forward to it, but I don't come across mushrooms very often so I would like everything to go right and not be a waste of time and money.

tea will keep fine hot in thermos for several hours easily... (if you're gonna store "leftovers" you can keep in covered jar/jug in fridge for a couple days; for longer, put in plastic covered containers (size of yogurt tubs?) in freezer...
straining will give an easier to drink beverage (i like to add a bit of cinnanmon & some condensed apple juice ---> "psilly cider"
the solids ("marc") remaining do have the non-water soluble psilocin, and some species/strains have quite a bit --- you could soak in ethanol (or other alcolhols, but ya can drink booze) to try & extract the rest of the alkaloids; or you could mix the shrooms into: chunky cinnamon applesauce, mushroom soup, in an omlette, on a pizza, whatever works for you (and of course, the less heating, the better...) --- but how much "stuff" is left in 'em depends on original alkaloid content and your initial extraction effectiveness...

oh, and a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of spice tend to act as preservatives as well... i like to add them in the second hot soaking of the mush-marc...

Just to admit my opinion:
this i one of the finest posts i've read here.
It's just perfect, good informations, no"i'm a bigger drug abuser than you are" and stuff.
Just fine, imformative and good to read.
Would be great if more people around here would care that much as you do about what they are posting ]8)=
