Freaked out
    #4131734 - 05/04/05 11:00 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Some of you might remember that a few weeks ago, I had a bad experience involving a man following me to work and harrassing me in the parking lot in front of my office.  Nothing further has come of that, I have not seen this guy, I still don't know who he was, or what his motivations may have been.

So today I was driving to work, and right before I left the house this morning, I took 2 extra strength vicodin because my back was killing me.  I'm used to pain killers, so driving on them is not an issue.  I was on the highway, and out of the corner of my eye spotted a car that looked like the same car the man was driving that day.  It was a blue BMW M3, and for a few seconds I was absoluitely convinced he was back.  I reached for my cell phone to call the police, and realized that I left it at my house this morning.  I realized it wasn't him, when the car pulled up next to me and I could see it was a woman, but by that time it was too late. I had a full out panic attack, because I felt completely helpless.  Started feeling dizzy, hyperventilating, my vision got all blurry...and I had to pull over to the side of the road, and sit there for a few minutes to get my shit back together.  I finally pulled back on the highway, drove to work, and took a few klonopins when I got here so my hands would stop shaking.  So now i'm sitting here trying to concentrate on financial matters, with 2 extra strength vicodin and 1.5 mg of klonopin in my system.

Fuck.

I'm doing ok right now...I'm just kinda worried that I'm going ot miss something on one of my files because I'm kind of out of it.

And I'm kind of tired.  Hope I don't fall asleep on my desk.  I haven't had a panic attack in SO long.  I still get anxiety sometimes, but I haven't had a full out attack like that in probably like 8 months or so.  I've been really even keeled since I started dating my boyfriend.  It was just really unexpected, which made it worse.  :frown:

Yeah I remember reading that post. What a freaky incident that must have been. Make sure you remember your phone from now on. That's what kinda saved you last time if I remember. Oh and might I suggest some caffeine to counteract any benzo/opiate sleepy feelings so you can get through your work day.

yeah, one of the guys I work with just went to go get me a great one at dunks hehe

I always bring my phone with me, especially since that incident, but I was running late this morning, and couldn't find it ANYWHERE. So I left without it. Fucking figures. All I wanted to do when I was pulled over on the side of the road was call my boyfriend, or my mom, or someone. Someone's voice would have helped a whole hell of a lot. Oh well.

clearly you've never been in a situation where you've felt threatened and helpless.  It's an awful feeling.  Thanks for belittling my feelings though

I'm not trying to judge, but just because you are used to the effects of the pills does NOT mean they are not affecting your ability to drive. Your consciousness is not aware of the effects due to habituation, but your body is affected.

It's like people who drive drunk because they "drive better drunk". Lol...that's a rationalization and excuse that has been proven wrong again and again through countless studies.

Don't worry about that guy. Just relax. I'm sorry to hear about your attack though! :frown:

You seem to be speaking out of turn, because I'm guessing you don't even know about the original post she was referring to with this entire incident today...it was completely worth a freak out.

I understand what you mean about the pills effecting my ability, and I agree with you.  But on top of the fact that I drive on pain killers I'm prescribed to quite frequently, I have a 25 minute commute to work, and I took them literally as I left the house.  So they weren't even effecting me yet.

And OneMoreRobot...as usual, you're awesome.  Thank you.

I don't mean to be rude, and I read about what happened to you, but no one threatened you so you had no reason to feel helpless. I think you can say that you are threatened when you start receiving punches in your face when you get robbed (which happened to me once).

I was just saying that it seems to be a vey extreme reaction to have a panic attack just because you saw a car that looked like the one that was following you. I dunno...

I think what he did was pretty threatening. He sat on my hood for a long time, wouldn't leave, and then when he finally was getting chased away, he leaned over, winked, and said he'd "see me soon".

That, to me, is a bit intimidating.

Perhaps your idea of a threat differs somewhat from that of others.

If you read her original thread, she was threatened.

What the hell are you talking about? That's not a threat, that's an assault.

A threat is some skeevy guy with a skeevy look on his face sitting on the goddamn hood of your car and obviously going out of his way to freak you out since he followed you all the way to work. Threats can be non-verbal, all body language, silent.

on top of that, he was knocking on my window, demanding that I get out and "talk to him". When I refused, he chuckled and was like "well you can't stay in there forever"

I'm not some scared little thing, I can hold my own, but when a guy treats a girl in that manner, to me, it's a threat.
