How much do you take care of the way you look, now I don't mean being healthy, I mean looking a certain way, like having an atractive body or certain kind of hair style
And how does that process affect your psyche?

I brush my teeth, take a shower, and put a little sticky gel shyt in my hair, a little deodorant, otherwise than that, nuthin.... Like it or lump it....!

Psyche...? When I went across the country, I was not able to take a shower all of the time, but I got to wash my face, and brush my teeth at the rest stops....  (I don't THINK I was stinky....?)  We slept in the car to save money.... It didn't seem to "effect" anything as far as my soul - being "dirty"....!? We were in GOD's country, enjoying the splendor too much to think of anything else....

I DID enjoy a nice looooooong shower when I got home....

I personally do a lot to look good. I always have my hair gelled in a short trendy style, I lift weights (bodybuild), and I even occasionally go tanning at a salon. I like the positive attention I get from other people, especially from women. It makes me feel good. At the same time, I'm able to recognize that this is just my ego and it really doesn't matter in terms of long-term happiness. But my mood is always affected by how I look and how people percieve me, because on days when I'm tired and have circles under my eyes, or I've got a nice zit on my face, or my hair is a mess, my mood is sour to match.

I used to act like that before, but now I realize that such actions were not healthy to me because I was attached to a certain kind of image I thought I should look like.
Then something changed, I can't remember really what happened, and I just let go and stopped carring about it.
Right now I still don't care, so I eat whatever I want to eat,
don't cut hair and don't shave, just my natural old self, and
I must say that I feel better than ever because of being true to myself in a way.
Long hair is liberating because you never look at it and think wheather you should get a hair cut or not, or wheather you should use this stuff on it or not or even wheather you should comb it or not, the wind just makes it look as the wind thinks it should look
Same with beard, not shaving is a bliss, just cut it a bit here and there and you're good to go
I'm allso fatter than I used to be, and it also feels better because no longer am I attached to a certain kind of concept of myself
Right now my concept of myself is identical to my actual look, there is nothing I wish to change because I don't care anymore, and it is sooo liberating
I'm a much happier person now

I am just about the exact opposite of OldWood.
I like my hair very short, nearly shaved. I like this because it, 1.) deflects attention from cops, 2.) is nice and cool whereas long hair (even past 1.5 inches) is very hot, and 3.) my hair is so thick.
I shave every few days when my beard starts to itch. Then I just shave and grow a one week beard again.
I realized I got too attached to my image of myself as a fat guy, so now I let go of that and eat good organic vegetarian foods whenever possible.
Same insight, completely opposite effect on behavior. Wierd.

Your body is the psysical manifestation of you at least in part. There may be more to you than that though. But you knew that.

My experience is that at least 'outwardly' you do play a role in your own existence. A costume for the actor, a stage to perform.. as far as it affects/effects the psyche depends on whether one is in the process of projecting or reflecting in a given moment.
It could be percieved that ppl in general tend toward their natural inclinations.

I generally am more fond of girls who take care of themselves, so I do the same.
You don't have to have a concept of yourself in order to take care of yourself.

Not being attached to a necessity of some image of yourself does not mean that one doesn't concern oneself with the state their body is in. You might feel happier now that you are fatter than you used to be, as you have transcended a mental addiction to something, but your might not feel happy later when your lack of physical upkeep prevents you from fitting into a phone booth, or causes yourself serious health problems that put your very life at risk.
There is a difference between an addiction that is vested with emotions and a simple preference that does not inflict upon yourself negative emotions if it is not fufilled.
