While spore prints are helpful for idenfitying a Genus or division of mushrooms... Making a generalization on what color print means deadly and which means "okay" would just be too easy.
A lot of edible mushrooms have white prints. Even more VERY DEADLY mushrooms also have white prints.
A lot of edible mushrooms have brown prints. At lot of poisonous/deadly mushrooms have brown prints.
A lot of active mushrooms have purple-brown prints. A lot of inactive, bad tasting mushrooms have purple brown prints.
A lot of active mushrooms have rusty colored prints(Gyms). A lot of VERY DEADLY mushrooms also have rusty colored prints.
See where this is going...?
The only sure shot for IDing a mushroom on a spore print: Chlorophyllum molybdites is the only mushroom that drops a green spore print to my knowledge. It's poisonous and has caused deaths.
Due to the incredibly diversity of mushrooms, a spore print alone means next to nothing when trying to ID a mushrooms. We have to have all the other characteristics like habitat, gill structure, brusing reaction, color, measurments, etc. etc. etc.
alright, well could you help me ID some without pics? they are a dark yellow color, about 2 inches high, had a chocolate colored print, some had a bell shaped cap, and they had those little skirts under the caps, they were found one a dead tree. i kno not to eat them until they have been IDed but i would like to know if they are active. thanks. Edit: also i just remembered when they first start growing they have a red cap which turns to a dark yellow.
There's probably a few hundred (thousand maybe?) mushrooms that fit that description and without a pic an ID would be impossible. I can't even narrow it down to a Genus. As far as I know they could be Deadly Galerinas. Sorry mang.
I'd say get us a pic (using a scanner works well too) or toss them out.
