Grafting Experiment
    #4129239 - 05/03/05 07:08 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

I recently grafted a San Pedro Seedling onto Opuntia Compressa(Experimental). My question is; Does the scion usually go red brown when given sunlight or am I giving it too much sunlight?

Here's the pic (notice brown/red near bottom of graft? sorry for pic quality).

if it was getting sunburned, it would most likely be turning colors on the upper surfaces where the sun was hitting it most directly.

how long ago did you graft that? maybe the graft didn't take.

About a week and a half ago. It seems to be fused to the stock well. The redness bagan after I put it in the morning sun for about a half an hour each day, and I've begun reducing the humidity. No shriveling was observed.

keep it inside, maybe near a windowsill, and hopefully it will live.

the sun is too strong for a tiny grafted seedling.

Would a shaded spot work? Floros? What if I cover the scion with an opaque material and let the stock recieve light?

Dont need a lot of light. Just keep it kinda warm and let it get some inderect light. Floros will be fine, out side now is no good. The root stock is alive and functioning and will support the graft just fine in the house or by a window.
