Maryland flower bed find
    #4129388 - 05/03/05 07:46 PM (18 years, 10 months ago)

There was some rain on Saturday, played golf today and there were mushrooms popping all over the golf course, they all seemed to be of the same variety so I picked a few. There were many dozen all growing together in a mulched flower bed. The stems are around 2 to 2.5 in. long, hollow, and they are rather fiborous, and white-yellow in color around .25" diamter and they do not bruise blue. The caps are smooth, and relatively uniform, a few of the older ones have multiple cracks on the caps. The color of the cap for the most part is a whitish-yellow/light golden color with a darkening towards the center "nipple" shape. The gills are of similar color to the cap, wavy, and run from the edge of the cap to the stem. It is not the "hollow bell shaped cap", but flat, cylindrical, with the "darker colored nipple". I am waiting for my spore print to finish, will check back later.

Spore print will probably be a white or a buff color. The cracking makes me think Inocybe. It's possible that they're Conocybe too.

Are they really frail? Caps fall appart easily? Did you leave some in the sun to see if they shrivle up into almost nothing?

They're not active, I can tell you that.

Spore print was a brown color, sorry no cam or even a scanner. Back to the flower bed they go I guess

The inocybe fuscomarginata looks very similar

Either way it looks like it is in the inocybe family, and back to the garden it goes.

THanks :-)
