I dont even bother with tape anymore. I used to use brf/ verm with no dry verm layer, just not filled up to the top with tape on the holes, and would leave the tape on after innoculation, I never had any contam problems this way. Then I started using brf/verm with dry verm layer and no tape, just tinfoil over the lid before innoculation, then taken off and have never had a contam problem this way either. But growth is definately faster in the jars without the tape. My friend is testing out some MM filters now.

Don't tape the holes before you PC them. If the lids is no tight you can blow them up. I put tape on after inoculation, but take it off after the jars show signs of growth (size of a quarter). if you leave the tape on it realy slows down the speed of growth.

I tape them before p.c.ing. leaving the jars just a hair loose.
Though I'm starting to think its no big deal to wait until after...
...as long as you don't forget the tin foil.
