take a spore print, brown would mean it's a panaeolina foenisecii, and black would indicate panaeolus subbalteatus - which is an active. Welcome to the shroomery!

I also can't give you any further help till you read this forums sticky thread on how to give proper ID information on your newly found mushrooms.

Ok How do I spore print them? also what are the processes of eating them. assuming they are good shrooms. How do I dry them, Can I just take off the stems and eat the tops?

I highly doubt they are "good shrooms" ^_^ and even if they were, thats not nearly enough subbs to get you flyin'. remove the stem frop the cap of one mushroom, as close as you can, and place the cap on a piece of white paper, GILLS DOWN! now stick a cup over it and wait a few hours, 24 hours if possible. Then tell us what color the spore deposit on the paper is.

And if they do happen to be pan subbs, all parts of the mushroom are good to eat. Just plop them in your mouth, chew, swallow. Some like to put them on pizza or have orange juice with them to kill the taste. Subbs to me taste like mild butter, so I usualy just eat a handful of them without noticing any bad taste.

Also in your pictures I now see 3 differen't kinds of mushrooms. Possible panaeolus subbalteatus/panaeolina foenisecii, the big one I have no clue, I can't see the cap at all, and the really skinny ones with the elongated coned caps similarly resemble Conocybe lactea. Please take the time to examine each mushroom you find, and root out the different kinds of mushrooms into different piles, numbering these piles and organizing your finds before posting would also greatly help.

the prints are turning brown...is that good? and if these are panaeolus subbalteatus or panaeolina foenisecii or Conocybe lactea, can I just take off the stems and eat them? I have lots of them in my lawn...lots. Is there a process after pick them...what do I do after I pick them...can I just eat them? Sorry for the noob questions. But there is could only be these 3 types. If so which is the process of eating each of these 3 kinds of mushrooms? what will the efeects of these types of mushrooms be? are they stongor weak? what whith these mushrooms...I have lots of them and I want to know if they are good or not?

first of all, which mushroom did you take a spore print of?

The ones in red are the possible panaeolus subbalteatus, the ones in the blue squares look like conocybe lactea, the one in green I need to see the cap, and get a spore print of that too, and the ones in yellow I have no clue and aren't active.

If they ARE actives, it's not hard to figure out how to consume them, theres something in your body called a stomach, how you introduce the mushrooms to your stomach is your choice, but none of these appear to be actives. Dont get too excited, I'm just trying to help you get an idea of what you got there bud.

Welcome to the Shroomery dust321.

You have a mixed collection of at least three different species, possibly four. Some of them are probably poisonous. The only ones of interest are the specimens ShroomieOfDoomie circled in RED. The others are not active and may be poisonous. If the ones circled in red drop brown spores, then they are also not active.

I know you don't want to hear that your mushrooms are inactive, but there is no amount of wishful thinking that will make an inactive mushroom psilocybian.

The color of the spore print is very important for mushroom identification. Brownish (instead of black) spore prints would indicate that you have P. foenisecii, an inactive species.

Happy mushrooming!

ok the reason I said panaeolus subbalteatus/panaeolina foenisecii was cause those are two different species that look almost alike but have different spore colors. Now those specimens look a little young to be dropping any spores for subbs, but if they are foes they would be dropping spores at that size. The ones that made brown prints aren't active, and im pretty sure all of them aren't either.

And black spore print would indicate that your mushroom is Panaeolus Subbalteatus, which is an active. Even if those you have there are active, theres not nearly enough of those to get you where you want to go.

Any more questions or does that clear everything up?

Keep in mind the difference between Panaeolina "brown" and Panaeolus "black" is a tough one to call.

Here's my special image to help you figure it out:

Also keep in mind that a lot of Psathyrellas will drop dark enough brown prints to confuse some people into thinking that they're black.

If you have a brown black controversy, do this:
1. Get a cotton swap (q-tip). Moisten it a little
2. Swab the spore print in question.
3. Wipe the spores on WHITE paper, trying to make the streak of spores thin (don't cake them on the paper).
4. Get something you know is JET BLACK. Like a film canister for example.
5. Take your jet black thingie, and your paper with the smeard spores out into the sun and compare the two colors. Anyone who is not color blind should be able to determine the color.
