Straw advisable over plain ole casing?

Okay well... I've got A LOT of extra jars I need to use within the next month or so. And.... I already have dedicated a few (4/32) for spawning to High Mountain Compost (5LBS). I've thought... Should I do these jars which are a mix of 1QT WBS and 1/2PT PF jars.. in a wheat straw / large rubbermade container and case it, or do some larger sort of tin foil pan casings with straight colonized material??
( 11 X 1QTS inoculated at various times )
( 26 x 1/2PT PF jars also done at various times )
(what I've got to work with)
Tin foil pan casings might have more than one or two flushes unlike straw correct?
But.. straw might make a few LARGE flushes because the substrate layer would be much thicker. Right?
Which would be a more efficient use of space with this spawn??
STRAW OR CASE??

In my friends opinion, use the wheat straw, just keep it higher humidity than casings, and you will be very happy with your results. bluhoney

I jumped from pf cakes to strawcasings. And never regret that I skipped the plain rye casings. All my strawcasings flush multiple times. After about 6 flushes they are so weak that I toss them...
So MY suggestion is to go for teh wheat straw....

MushroomFriend: check your PM's.
Arp: Both, yes. I plan on using a 60/40 casing and some crushed oyster shells as soon as the straw colonizes 100%.
Who would advise another TEK / meathod over ShroomGod's TEK for doing straw??

Straw TEK - chop/shred the straw, blender or scissors. I use pieces between 2 and 4 inch. Cause I am lazy all below 3 inch would be better , gives fast spawnruns. - pasteurize teh straw either "pillow case"or oven bag / pot Make sure you have a heat resistant thermometer. Cause both half pasteurized and half sterilized straw substrates are very likely to contam sooner or later. But often IF they contam it will be likely to be SOONER.
- let cool (90F or lower) - I put some moistend verm on the bottom - straw-spawn-straw-spawn-straw and end with spawn. - in between push the substrate firmly in the casing - cover with (alu)foil, poke holes in that - I also put a lid on - Put in incubator
I like to use high spawn ratios 1 part spawn on 4 to 6 parts of substrate. Fast spawnruns, and thus less likely to contam also.
Then teh straw will be colonised in less then a week if you are lucky.
case it: - make case mix (I use 80-90%% peat with 10-20% verm) I add 5-8% garden chalch to this. I put this in microwave for a good 5 minutes, Yoiu can also PC it 10-15 minutes.
I like to use 1/4 th of teh substrate depth as a measure for the casing layer.
- Incubate again, in a few days you will see the myc poking through. Then either patch or fruit...and so on.
Ehmmmmm
Hmmz ok good luck,
Gonna read that PM now

I have no problems with dry straw.
Thats why you cover the spawned straw with foil, and if possibble a lid or saran wrap without holes.
It wont dry out then.
