starting peyote seeds

hello good people, I would like to start some cacti seeds and have a great book but it recommends sterilizing the soil.
Since the book is rather dated, I'd like to know is it really necessary to sterilize if one is using Schultz Cactus soil? The instructions with the seeds, which are very minimal, don't say anything about sterlizing the soil.
Of course any other tips on starting the seeds would be appreciated.

I used the same soil. I am not sure if it is necessary to sterilize it, but I baked it for an hour anyway. One piece of advice I can give is to remove the little twigs/mulch like material in the Schultz soil using a colander or something. That material, as soon as it gets wet and covered, grows a white, hairlike fungus on it. I had to keep removing the cover to let it dry out a little bit to slow down the growth. For my second batch, I removed that stuff before starting, and I had no problems with fungus. I didn't use an fungicide.

alot of peeps never sterilise with good results. i dont sterilise either.
one thing that might help is to put the seeds in the fridge (not freezer) for 48 hrs, then keep them at room temp for another 48 hrs before planting.

I also douse with a q-tip soaked in peroxide the mold spots as i see em. You can also take a few drops of bleach to a cup of water and soak the seeds for an hour before they are sown.
