Drying Issues
    #4116238 - 04/30/05 07:58 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

Ok,
I have made my first attempt at cultivation and it was a total success. But, for some reason, i think i may be drying them wrong. I simply pick them and then set them out on foil. No fan or anything like that. Here's my problem. They are shriveling up really small. They look nothing like ones i see online or find at festivals. Is this because of my drying method? Or is it simply a strain issue? I don't know the strain for sure. I got the spores from a grow kit i got on AmazingNature.com. I've included pics before drying and pics after drying.

Nope they look normal pf style shrooms. Most festival shrooms ive seen are generally pretty big sized guys. Look like they are grown off casings or you see some field ones some times. Also some fesitival shroosm are poorly dried(a lot).

With out using fan the caps can lose thier shape like that. Premium drying method is fan then desiccant or a dehydrator.

Try dunking that cake. The 2nd flush will probably be a lot better with meetier fruits.

American Harvest Dehydrators rule. No messing with dessicants or fans and it is a lot faster, cheaper, and more reliable.

Looks pretty normal. You have to remember that shrooms are 90%-92% water. After drying , your shrooms should be 1/10 of the size they were when picked.

you can use a dehydrator/fan, but then your just introducing unwanted heat, light, and excessive oxygen that breaks down the psilocybin. If you really treasure every last mg of psilo in your shrooms, use desiccant.

its easy to build your own dehydrator. get a plasic box that is big enough to just fit into a shelf in your fridge.

make a separation wall with two holes. on one side of the separation, setup the desiccant and a container for the water it sheds. on the other racks for the material you want to dry.

put a small fan in one of the holes of the separation wall.

load up with whaterver you want to dry, stick the hole thing in your fridge. and voila! 16-24 hrs later its all dry.

lets see if i can draw a simple image of what i mean. and edit it in.

*edit*these are kinda crude, but you will get the idea. you make something like this... and everything becomes crispy dry in a day. gl.

Just bake some rice let it cool and then lay your shrooms on a layer of rice. 1 day and there cracker dry(with some fanning before that to lose the most water)

you have any facts to back this up?

---

I can cook up spagetti and not have any potency loss.

I can cook up Tea without there being any potency loss.

I can make up a pizza...cook that and not have any potency loss.

I have been doing this since 1976.

---

and I have been using a dehydrator for years now...there is no potency loss.

I can dry out some Psilocybe cyanescens in the dehydrator...leave them out in the open air after dehydrating them...and there is no potency loss.

Potency loss by heat is myth...plain and simple.

i like the plans to build my own dehydrator. If i use a computer fan in it, how exactly do i rig that into an outlet?? Today i took a fan and spliced it into a regular cable to plug into the wall, and the fan burned out. Do i need to get a 12V adapter and splice the two??

lol, yes you need a 12v. or else... well... you already know the "or else" option.

Some dehydrators have adjustable heat from 95-155. What is recommended?
