Spawn is a fully established mycelium culture on different media (grains, etc.) that is used to further grow out on a much larger substrate, such as horse poo, straw, etc.

also the term "to spawn" referrs to using the colonised grains to mix it among
the substrate, its like inoculation using grains but its called spawning :wink:
