Where can someone find suitable oat, wheat (or wheat straw), rice bran for growing medium? I am just a small time beginning home grower so not looking for massive quantities (just things maybe locally available).
Do you get organic rye for those 50 lb. bags? Because as far as I know...I don't think the feed stores in my area are much into organic whole grains. Does it matter? I would guess not...as the WBS I've used wasn't organic either.
And, on a related note...of course there are WBS teks for cubies, so, is WBS all right for gourmets or should you get something like rye?

economicly rye is way way way better then wbs. You can find organic rye but i wouldnt be suprised if you had to pay up to five times more.
I never messed with wbs but in my opinion bird seed doesnt have the nutrients like rye. Rye expands and doubels it size and is packed full of life giving protein. WBS ounce for ounce compared to rye has a lot more of the less nutrient rich inside and more of the hard outer shell.
Supplementation at spawning would be achieved by using double or tripple the amount of rye. The bulk sub pluss the large amount of cheap rye = a bountiful harvest.
