Mom Sentenced For Bringing Heroin To Son At School Woman To Spend 120 Days On House Arrest April 29, 2005 clickondetroit.com
A mother accused of bringing heroin to her 16-year-old son at Ferndale High School learned her sentence in Oakland County Circuit Court on Friday.
Sheila Black, 41, of Metamora, was sentenced to three years of probation. She will be placed on house arrest under electronic monitoring for 120 days.
Black pleaded guilty last month to one charge of possession with intent to deliver heroin, according to The Daily Tribune. Prosecutors said Black planned to hug her son and drop heroin in his pocket while at school.
Black was arrested Feb. 1 in the parking lot of the high school on Pinecrest Street. Police said they set up surveillance of Black after they received a tip that she was planning to give the heroin to her son.
Black brought the drugs to her son after he allegedly threatened to kill himself. He explained to her over the phone where to purchase the drugs, how to cook the drugs in a spoon and load it into a syringe, the paper reported.
The boy's parents are divorced and he lives with his father in Ferndale, according to the paper's report. A Lapeer County court order has blocked Black from having unsupervised visits with her son.
Prior to the incident, Black had completed an in-patient medical treatment for substance abuse involving narcotic prescription painkillers.
