Question about "Burmese" cubensis sub-strain
    #4111818 - 04/29/05 06:10 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Isn't the name "Burmese" a misnomer? Seeing that the country's name is Myanmar, shouldn't it be called the "Myanmarese" strain?

I know, people are going to say that the country was called Burma until a decade or so ago, so it is still an appropriate title. But by that logic, you could call any of the Thai strains "Siamese", and that's accurate.

My point is: There is no Burma, so why is there a Burmese cube?

Loc: gone with my shrooms

Because I collected the sporwes across the Burmese border.

As for Cambodia and the Cam strain, I collected it there yet the country is called Kampuchea.

I also collected many Thai strains and felt no need to call them Siamese shrooms.

Burnma is more known to the world than Myamar and I am a lover of Rudyard Kipplings poems and books about Burma, so I called it the Burmese strain of cubensis.

There is still n unidentified Colder weather species found in Changmai, shown in Paul Stamets book PMOTW. I plan on calling that one Psilocybe thailandia if I find it.

The person who took the image in Paul's book was Gary Lincoff. He was paranoid about trying to bring the shroom to America for research so he photographed them and then ate them.

S the Director of the New York Botanical Gardens, and the head of the North American Mycological Society, all he had to do was deposit his specimens at any Thai University and then work from there.

So a new shroom remains unknoww to the world becasue of tis matter.

I think it makes more sense to call the substrain by the name of the place that it came from, not that country's former name.
