Graduating from PF-Tek
    #4110383 - 04/29/05 09:38 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

Hi everyone, as I'm approaching the fruiting stage of my 1st grow and discovered the Shroomery, I've also discovered many new growing techniques. Doing my first grow PF-Tek style and crumbling and casing using the 50/50 verm/coir casing tek I'm looking for something more advanced for my next grow.

I'll probably be sticking to casing using the 50/50 tek but am looking for input into what substrate to choose.

What are the benefits/disadvantages as well as colonization times for the following: WBS, rye, millet and popcorn??? What do people recommend??

Also is GT considered a slow colonising strain?? I'm considering changing strains for my second grow also, how do ecuador, south american and cambodian compare in terms of colonization times??

millet is the main component in wild bird seed.
all of these are whole grains and need to be pressure cooked.
the advantages are that there is less hassle during prep, you can shake it to speed up colonization time, you can use it to spawn a larger amount of pasteurized substrate.
i reccomend wbs to pasteurized Horse Poo

you ought to be fine with any of those strains.

Anything besides pf-tek and spawning to h/poo and straw IMO , isn't worth it...

I say that b/c i've lost so many casing's due to contams and i've lost lots of jars....but then again it was all meanie greenie and i think my PC is lying and not reaching 15psi like it tells me :?

But from what i've seen..Agar knows what he's talking about, i even remeber his fav. mix, :smirk:

50%wbs - 45%rye - 5%Canola Seeds (no more than 5%..Period)

I've heard rye colonizes fast....Pretty much all strains colonize at the same rate, it's all about the elemental factors

if your not ready to jump into the poo realm, theres always straight brown rice as a substrate. Works wonders.

I've always had great results fruiting directly from cased rye berries.  Here's a simple and very effective method... GL bro :stoned:
