bluing reaction

I got a used copy of Mushrooms Demystified. (It was the 1986 edition--wonder if it has been published again...)The last photo shows the author with enormous black rings under his eyes and a greenish hue to his skin. A friend of mine told me that excessive psilocybin mushroom ingestion leads to discoloration in fingernails etc. Is Arora's picture a)a joke, or b)psilocin bluing? I can't believe his editor let him include that picture--kinda gross.

your skin does turn green, but its not THAT green. I read somewhere that it could be mild jaundice from the psilocybin intoxication. I've seen people on mushrooms whos skin was tinted slighty yellowish green. Whenever I trip with friends, everyone else's face is tinted purple, but all our faces are a yellowish green color. But then again we usualy take quarter O's of cyans.

I should hope your seeing much more than mild color tinges. After 7g I would describe your skin as pulsating with rainbows with worms made of lightning whipping about like tassles in a high wind.

LOLOLOL!

Yes, this image is a joke. He throws around a lot of "mushroom humor" in this book. A lot of it is hard to comprehend if you're not the nerdy type that can understand where a guy is coming from who's dedicated his life to mushrooms :P

Daviud Arora is also a really fantastic poet and his poetry is very strange but at the same time very humourous. Of course if you have not seen any of his lectures or workshops you most likely would not have heard his poetry.

And no psilocine and psilocybine do not make ones skin turn green or blue.

Also it is the psilocine which oxidises and turns blue, not the psilocybine.
