Whats the smallest filter patch you can get away with?

Large autoclave bags still have very small filter patches about 1" square. Is there a big benefit to a large one? A small one will prevent moisture loss an lessen the chance of contamination growing through it. I always thought it was small but these bags are made specifically for growing so hopefully the designers knew what they were doing. In this case the filter for small jars could be tiny if you were to use the same ratio of filter size to substrate volume.

the patches on filterpatchbags do not let moisture escape.
they provide gas exchange but the moisture content,
once the bag was sealed, stays exactly the same.

there are also bags with 2 or 3 filterpatches on them
or even "lines" of filtration material running across the bags,
and yet the moisture content is always perfect
