Living Art- Fish Tank !
    #4107766 - 04/28/05 06:35 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

I think of my fish tank as living art more than as a pet. It looks cool and adds a relaxing atmosphere to the room.

I would like to get a salt water tank, they are beautiful... Anyone have one? Are they hard to take care of?

In my freshwater i have 4 tetra, 2 hatchet fish, 3 guppys, 2 shrimps, 1 snail and 1 frog.

Frogs can live in fish tanks? How does that work? I thought they were like... land and water animals. Do you have a little platform for him to climb out onto or anything?

I have a tall 20 gallon that I've been wanting to set up for a while. A lady friend of mine almost convinced me to drop a hefty amount of coin on a nano reef salt water setup last year. It would have been a kickass thing, but I didn't have the money to spend on it.

Salt water tanks and fish are expensive as hell and require alot of attention. The are definitley hard to take care of compared to freshwater, but they are so worth it. The fish you can get when you go salt water are in a totally diferent league than fresh water. I suggest you do it, but be ready to spend, it's not cheap.

I agree. I have seen the salt water set-ups and fish, and they totally kick the shit out of fresh water set-ups. But, I have a freshwater aquarium and I love it, so it just matters more on if you are getting sick of your simple fresh water aquarium. You should progress up to the the salt water tank(much like you progress to casing from cakes).

salt water is expensive and messy. my parents used to REALLY be into it.

hm i got my bf, his brother and his friend really into it. hehe. i only have a 10 gallon w/ 2 pink tetras, 1 gourami, 1 pleco and a blue lobster. hehe. my blue lobster i got as a TINY little baby... smaller than a dime and now he's about the size of a quater and getting bigger.

my boyfriend has 3 goldfish, 1 bala shark, 1 iridescent shark, 1 elephant fish, 1 albino frog (was the size of ur dwarf but now about 10 times bigger), 1 large blue lobster, 1 little old man looking fish, 1 pleco and 1 snail.

i think personally his tank is a little crowded for a 20 gallon. these fish are not very small.

A saltwater tank with the proper balance and right setup can be almost maintenance free. If you avoid corals and such you don't have to spend tons on light, which is very expensive. Keep the number of fish and inverts down and get a lot of live rock and a good protein skimmer and all you will have to do is clean the glass and occasionally (every 2-3 months) change about 1/4 to 1/3 of the water. A nanoreef is tough but a 20 gal fish and crab or starfish or shrimp only tank is no biggie. 3 or 4 inches of fish is probably about tops but they are gorgeous. The shrimp are very cool too.
