Hydrogen Peroxide harmful to mycelium ?

Regarding the 50/50+ plus casing technique, is it safe to mist the casing layer with water that has a dash of hydrogen peroxide in it? or would this be hamful to the mycelium ? 

I'm just trying to keep contams down as much as possible without harming the important stuff.

This is my first post to the shroomery - although i've studied it's archives for years - it feels good to be onboard :smile:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Cheers,

Hi,

In my experience, yes, it can be harmful. I don't use H202 on casings anymore for this reason. Lots of fresh air exchange is the best way to battle casing based contamination.

welcome, honestly from what i've read i don't think there is a problem w/ it...although i'm really giving that advice on what others have said. i personally use about a 10:1 ratio of h202 in my misting bottle, but i couldn't tell you if spraying down my casings w/ it is going any damage or not... i really can't tell

hopefully someone else should pipe in w/ some knowledge, and again welcome!

ime its just a q of concentrations, 0.3-0.6% seems ok. at least never caused me any problem (that i noticed).

You can spray h202 onto casing IN REASON. Don't saturate the shit out of it or use straight h202 but a 10:1 solution used after applying the casing layer and intermittently while colonizing it should only slow things down minorly, not majorly. You should expect to trade off some speed of colonization for h202 though as the mycelium has to expend rescources to break it down that it could be putting into growth, BUT P. Cubensis mycelium is more than capable of breaking down minor quantities of hydrogen peroxide.
