yea carl loves large TiTs LOL :nut:

but anyway if anything it should have a temp guage on it where you can adjust to a lower temp setting. high wattage tank heaters are actually safer cuz you dont have to exhuast the heater to keep your TITs  at  83 degrees.

Higher power just means it has to be turned on for shorter lengths of time. This is better since elements are rated to last for x hour so in theory it should last twice as long as a 150W made with similar wire

I was told by an aquarium expert that the more a heater is turned on and off...the faster it will wear out.
The more steady the heater stays on...the better.

So I use 100 watt and 200 watt heaters.

The 200 watt for the winter months.

The 100 watt for the summer months.

Yes, 300 watts is quite a bit to have. Also all depending on the size of you TiT. I have a 25 watt, and work/heats up fine!

Say you have a fixed volume of water and heat it to 25C with a 150 or 300W heater. It will click off once it reaches temperature and they will both stay off for the same amount of time, until it drops in temp. The only problem with turning on more times would be the switch wearing out, since are nearly all bimetallic thermal switches there is no real problem. The heating coils is usually the first to go. Well actually they usually crack or get water in them and rust up before anythings else!

I bought a 200w. On the lowest setting it was maintaining about 88 degrees F. So I took it back and got the 50w. It is turned to the half way position and now maintains 82 degrees F inside the incubator.

I think it all just depends on how much your room temp is to begin with and size of tits.

That's true with the mechanical contact heaters. A lot of the heaters anymore are electronic. I believe all of the metal ones are electronic. About half of the glass ones (the better ones) are too. For good heaters, look for titanium ones (like Won Brothers), Ebo Jagers, and Tronics are good too. Believe me, a good one is worth the difference in price, and if you can't swallow it at the store, go on Ebay. Even the best ones there are no more than $20 bucks.

As far as wattage, the cheap ones WILL stick on eventually. If that 300W is a cheap one, I hope you like the tub-in-boiling-water-tub tek. They say it makes great sauteed mushrooms. Just add butter.
