growth on san ped pup
    #4104532 - 04/27/05 10:16 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what's up with the top of this pup which I recently rooted. Seems like it might have been nipped at the top and is trying to grow another pup... any guesses?

Woah, that is grotesque. It has areoles so i guess its a pup but it looks dead already. Did you keep that thing wet before it had roots?

As soon as I received it I stuck it in some moist soil, but I don't know how it was treated before I got it. Since it developed roots it's plumped up at an insane rate. What do you think it'll try to do?

If i cut a little chunk out of my san pedro (like 1cm x 1cm x 2cm), will it most likely start growing pups? How many times a year can you do this? Does it stress out your cactus?

I would chop the top off, it looks like rot so cut it away until you find healthy flesh again. Keep it dry, winter is coming.

LiveByFreedom cutting random chunks from your cactus is not a good idea. If you want pups to propagate with you should cut the tip off with a straght cut, or angled if it is in an area that recieves a lot of rain.

Well, a friend of mine accidentally cut my pedro with his fingernail, and it turned black after a few days, started scarring over, and now it's twice the size. There are 4 black dots on it now, not worried about those. I just think it might be a good idea to cut the 1/2cm x 1cm black chunk out. Just curious
