Looks for some acoustic guitar that breaks some boundaries
    #4104531 - 04/27/05 10:16 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Looking for any music groups that make some decent, original music. People with a new sound but are acoustic. I'm getting an acoustic guitar soon for pretty cheap because I want to mess around with it, and I'm looking for some inspiration. Something new. Not looking for some soft christian rock, or some country. There has to be something new out there.

FLAP - a co-worker turned me on. It's two acoustic guitars played together like greased batshit... Well I can't really describe it, but it's great!
Also Kaki King is a gift from above. Check her out, she's from Georgia!

Listen to some Neil Young. Harvest, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and After The Gold Rush.

Then, Pink Moon by Nick Drake.

my god yes! the self titled mp album is a lost classic of sorts. Thats album has held a heavy prescense in my listening rotation for a long time. Thier other two releases did'nt do it for me but that first album is one of my favorites.

Leo Kottke and John Fahey are acoustic guitar legends, and I would be a great idea to let them influence your playing. and the acoustic magic that John Frusciante shows on these albums:

From the sounds inside
to record only water for ten days
shadows collide with people
curtains

is absolutley worth hearing.

Robbie Basho is great
Six Organs of Admitance have the best acoustic style ever.

and any hawaiian slack key masters should be studied a little. If you can learn slack key It opens up all kinds of doors for your playing. It's also good to know spanish clasical.

Good Luck

Check out Tantric's self-titled disc... there's some good acoustic work on that.

This older lady suggested i check out don ross sometime.
He's part apache and plays a wicked acoustic, so i'm told.
I just havent been able to find any of his work online.

I dunno, i'm on a serious budget right now.
And besides, i've never heard the guy before, so how do i know if i will enjoy listening to one of his albums again and again?
I sample the artist first, then buy.

PS. Most of my money is going towards Concerts/Music Festivals this summer.

the song 8:05 by mobey grape on thier self titled album has one of my favorite acoustic guitar lines ever. I think most of the album is elcectric, but 8:05 is beautifull!

Embryonic journey by jefferson airplane is another great acoustic track.

Hot tuna is a great acoustic band worth a listen.
